The Strumica area is full of things to see. If one feels like hiking then they should visit the nearby Mountain Belasica and the dazzling waterfalls of Smolare and Koleshino. The Smolare waterfall is located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Smolare, on the mountain Belasica, at an altitude of 600 metres. It is an object with a height of about 35 metres. Next to it, there is an access road and an arranged site for visitors with tourist and recreational function. Koleshino waterfall It is located in the lower course of the Baba River at an altitude of 500 metre. It has a height of 15 metres and a width of about six metres. According to the occurrence, it belongs to the tectonic waterfalls. In the immediate vicinity of about 100 metres, there are several smaller waterfalls and slopes arranged in a row with heights of up to five metres.
After we will visit most important monasteries in Macedonia is the Veljusa Monastery, built in 1080. Dedicated to the Holy Mother of God, it remains in very good condition inside and out. Monastery St. Leontius, v. Vodoca (11th century) the monastery is located in the village of Vodoca, which received its name according to the terrible event of 1014, when on that place under Belasica 14, 000 soldiers of Tsar Samuil were blinded by the Byzantines.
We are driving to Berovo small town 161 km from Skopje, 47 km from Strumica. We will visit the city Berovo and Monastery of St. Archangel Michael and Berovo Lake. The “Holy Archangel Michael” Monastery was built in 1818, among two old churches where Berovo used to be situated in the 18th century. The way which the Monastery was built is associated to a legend and the Monastery’s actions are closely related to the Razlog Uprising (1876) and the Kresna Uprising (1878). The Lake Berovo is located at a 6 kilometres distance from the town of Berovo, inside a flourishing pine and deciduous grove. Along the lakeside there are numerous villas which can be rented, amazing areas suitable for picnics, leisure or doing sports.
