We pick you up from your accommodation and go to The Dude Specialty Coffee to take our morning coffee and get some basic information about the tour. Then we visit a small bakery to have breakfast and try the famous BUREK with yogurt.
We start the tour by heading up to the middle of Vodno Mountain. There we take a cable car ride to the top where the Millennium Cross is located, enjoy the spectacular views and then go back.
Once back at middle Vodno we continue our drive by car/minivan to visit the Matka Canyon, about 17 km from Skopje. There we walk along the bank of the River Treska, which is famous for the competitions in kayaking that take place on it. Later, we follow the path that goes by the dam and the man-made lake Matka and we reach the Monastery of St. Andrew. After this we go on a boat ride on the lake in the canyon (8km long) during which we enjoy the magnificent surroundings and scenery and depending on the season – the scents of the flora and the songs of the numerous birds that live here. We visit Cave Vrelo which is full of amazing stalactites and stalagmites and contains two small lakes. Afterwards, we go back onto the boat and see the entrance to one of the deepest underwater caves in the world.
After the visit of the Matka Canyon, we return to Skopje and at the Kale Fortress we start the walking city tour which consists of a visit to the fortress first, then Mustafa Pasha Mosque, the Church of the Holy Saviour and then a stroll through the Old Skopje Bazaar where three caravanserais can still be seen as well as two Turkish baths – Chifte Hammam and Daut Pasha Hammam, dating back to the 15th century.
We will have our lunch in the Old Bazaar at the best traditional kebab restaurant – DESTAN – where you can also try the most popular local beer – SKOPSKO.
After lunch, the tour continues towards the modern part of the city on the right bank of the River Vardar. Before we cross the Stone Bridge, which is one of the oldest landmarks of Skopje, we can see the Holocaust Memorial Centre for the Jews of Macedonia and the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. On the other bank of the river is the main square Macedonia, with a lot of new statues and monuments. We walk along the main street Macedonia which connects the square to the Old Railway Station. We stop for a short visit to the Memorial House of Mother Teresa and end our tour in front of the Museum of the City of Skopje situated in the building of the Old Railway Station, which was partially destroyed by the earthquake in 1963.
Here the tour ends and we will drop you off at your accommodation.
